MACDONALD, Ruth Adelia (Isenor), Gays River, passed away August 25th in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital with family by her side. Ruth was born in Carroll's Corner in 1918 to parents, Lewis and Grace (Neiforth) Isenor. She received her education in Carroll's Corner and at the Halifax Academy. In 1939 she graduated from Truro Normal College and began a career in teaching. Antrim was her first school, followed by teaching positions in Seaforth, Cooks Brook, Carroll's Corner, Musquodoboit Elementary School and Musquodoboit Rural High. For nine years she was principal of the three‐roomed elementary school in Carroll's Corner. Ten of her thirty‐two years teaching were in one room schools that included all grades from one to eleven. Ruth loved to travel and after her retirement in 1978 she vacationed in Florida, cruised to Alaska, crossed Canada by train, did a bus tour of Europe, and took numerous road trips. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, she loved to cook, apple pies being her speciality. One year she baked and sold 99 pies, giving the money to over 20 different charities. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, completing crossword puzzles, making scrapbooks and watching Blue Jays baseball games. When 81 years of age she published a history book, "A Collection of Nova Scotia Firsts". In 2003 Hurricane Juan destroyed Ruth's home and she had to rent a house in Shubenacadie for nine months until her home was rebuilt. The following year she lost her beloved husband, Allan. Ruth is survived by son, Eric, daughter, Anne; sisters Dorothy Streatch, Meagher's Grant, Mildred Shewfelt, Dartmouth and Nancy Horne, Enfield, who was like a second daughter to Ruth. She was predeceased by husband, Allan, sister, Margaret, brothers, Fenton, Harley, Donald and Ferris and infant son, Glen, in 1949. The family would like to thank all those who helped out during their Mothers declining health. A special thank you to Dr. Adams for her great care and house calls to Mother. A special thank you to the medical staff at Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital and all Home Care Staff. Last but not least an extra special thank you to Nancy Horne who gave us strength and support throughout this difficult time. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. No visitation by request. Funeral to be held 2pm Friday August 28th, 2015 in Shubenacadie United Church, Rev.
