Obituary of Kenneth Aubrey MacMillan

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MacMILLAN, Kenneth Aubrey – 84, Enfield, passed away on May 13th, with family by his side. He was the son of the late Arnold and Hilda MacMillan. Our dad was a big part of the lives of his wife, children and grandchildren, who all lived close by. Born in Antigonish, he then moved first to Isaac’s Harbour, then Bridgetown, Moncton, Montreal, and finally settled in Enfield. Ken started off working on his family farm before joining the air force and becoming an aircraft mechanic, working with MCA and in the far north with Nordair, then moving to Air Canada. He was known for being a “MacGyver” wannabe, throwing nothing out that could be used to fix anything in the house, yard, or cars. For a number of years, Ken enjoyed travelling with his brother-in-law and his wife (Hubert and Thea). Ken fostered an enduring interest in science and science fiction in his kids and grandchildren. Many lively dinner conversations covering a variety of topics were often instigated by our dad. His sense of humour was a key attribute to his personality. He loved to tease people even through the last difficulties before his death. Ken, not being a religious man, still had a high code of ethics and morality; his compassion showed through in the care he gave his ailing wife at home during the years of her declining health. Our dad was an avid reader and loved nothing more than a good hockey game and pink popcorn. Kenneth is survived by daughters, Brenda Gaines (Darryl), Dartmouth; Darlene Brown (Todd), Enfield; son, Todd MacMillan (Carolyn), Enfield; grandchildren, Abbey and Jessica Gaines, Ryan and Amanda Brown and Camron MacMillan. Ken was predeceased by his wife Evelyn (Gagne) and his siblings. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home. By request, no visitation or funeral service. At the request of family, no flowers please. Donations may be made in Ken’s name to a charity of your choice.
